Product Details
The Spiral Thigh Brace is a 7/8 length compression pants with a a series of overlaid elasticised straps. Tension is applied to the straps in directional lines of pull to limit excessive internal rotation at the hip and thigh. Lightweight, cool, body hugging and looking similar to an athletic performance garment, the Spiral Thigh Brace is an ideal biofeedback tool to improve walking and running technique
Suitable as an aid to management of Hypermobility Disorders, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Pelvic weakness, Charcot Marie Tooth Disease, Cerebral Palsy, CVA/hemiplegia or just improving athletic performance
Uses:
Returning to running post hip/knee injury or return to running post pregnancy
Athletes wanting to improve biomechanics efficiency of running (by positioning the hip and knee in better position)
Patello-femoral pain that is secondary to gluteus medium insufficiency ( i.e. weakness of the muscles buttock/hip) that has failed standard McConnells programs
Inturned gaits, knock knee and pigeon toe gaits
Awkward dysfunctional running styles
Weight bearing exercise that is impeded by pain or instability related to ligamentous laxity or hypermobility in the hips.
*Ideal in conjunction with physiotherapy programs*
The Spiral Thigh Brace™ by SpiralSkins is a flexible bracing garment used as a gait retraining and biofeedback tool. It is used as part of a management plan for inturned gaits and knock knee, as well as pigeon toe gaits resulting from femoral anteversion or excessive femoral internal rotation of the hips and thighs. In adults and teens it can be used as part of a management plan for gait abnormalities associated with hypermobility disorders, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and low muscle tone and coordination disorder .
People often do strengthening exercise for the legs and pelvis in an attempt to correct these gait abnormalities. Despite strengthening the muscles, the gait pattern often remains unchanged. This is because in many cases, the inturned gait is an ingrained motor pattern that begins from when the person started walking as a baby or toddler. The adult often has no memory or concept of what it feels like to walk in a different pattern / normal pattern.
The Spiral Thigh Brace™ stabilises the pelvis and positions the hips and thighs in a biomechanically more efficient position. The directional pressure reduces excessive internal rotation at the hip and works as a biofeedback tool as the child gets to experience a more normalised walking pattern. The change in leg position (the inturning) is usually observable as soon as the garment is on.The garment is usually worn a minimum of 4 to 5 hours a day, in the period of the day when the child is most active, for a period of months (starting with 3 months) for biofeedback. This gives time for the brace to aid motor learning and brain development of new motor memories. The goal being that the more the person walks with the corrected pattern, the more it feels mechanically efficient and less fatiguing, the more the hip muscles will start to adapt to the better walking position. Or you may choose to wear the garment during sport or physical activity dependent on what your goals are. Most clients describe a "wow effect" when they put the brace on as they feel their legs being pulled outwards into a more neutral position.
